National Paralegal Month is a grassroots campaign to proclaim the month of May as National Paralegal Month. A national call to action to raise public awareness about the importance of Paralegals and Legal Assistants in the American Justice System.
What Is A Paralegal?
The National Federation of Paralegal Associations defines a paralegal as "… a person, qualified through education, training or work experience to perform substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts and is customarily, but not exclusively, performed by a lawyer. This person may be retained or employed by a lawyer, law office, governmental agency or other entity or may be authorized by administrative, statutory or court authority to perform this work. Substantive shall mean work requiring recognition, evaluation, organization, analysis, and communication of relevant facts and legal concepts.” Source: http://www.paralegals.org

National Paralegal Month advocates that an open and accessible legal system is essential to allow all people equal rights for justice and legal remedies with affordability and ease of use. National Paralegal Month supports Alternative Dispute Resolution ADR legal remedies such as mediation, arbitration, paralegal and ombudsman as out-of-court settlement solutions to maintaining American Freedoms and Justice for All.
Paralegals, legal assistants,courts, law associations and media are strongly encouraged to join together to build public awareness and maximize the nationwide impact of National Paralegal Month. Organize local public programs during the month of May to help educate the public about the importance of Paralegal and the services they provide.
